We’ve Been Where You Are
Energy Neighbours started in 2020 in three west-end Toronto neighbourhoods, where residents wanted to make their homes more energy efficient to save on their energy bills while doing something practical to help fight climate change. But between finding qualified contractors, navigating complicated forms and government rebates, and understanding the many steps and participant roles, it was a challenging process.
Energy Neighbour co-founder Aaron Freeman was one of those homeowners. With decades of experience in the clean energy field, he led the research to find highly qualified contractors with fair prices, and provided guidance on the available financing. In this first group, 21 homeowners successfully installed solar panels on their homes—powering their homes with clean energy and reducing their carbon footprint. Many residents in the group also installed heat pumps.
Since that time, we’ve expanded the group of residents, primarily through neighbour-to-neighbour word of mouth, and we’ve spread to other GTA communities.
So, we’ve been where you are — wanting to switch from fossil fuels to clean energy — but not knowing how to begin or who to trust to get the job done right.

Our mission is to connect homeowners like you with experts who can guide you through a clean energy retrofit. We’ll listen to your needs and help you choose your project, help you get quotes from contractors, give you a hand with the paperwork, and be with you every step of the way.
Through the whole experience, you’ll have access to our experts seven days a week. They can answer your questions and help keep your project on track.
