Toronto Start-up Makes Clean Energy Retrofits Easier for Homeowners

Toronto, April 4, 2024 – A new GTA initiative is helping residents install solar panels, heat pumps, and other clean energy retrofits – reducing energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

“We want to make sure that anyone who wants to cut their utility bills, reduce their emissions and increase the value of their home can do so with a clean energy retrofit,” said Aaron Freeman, Founder of Energy Neighbour and Principal at Pivot Strategic Consulting.

Energy Neighbour began as a pilot project in 2020. Then known as “Neighbourhood Energy Solutions,” the initiative assisted over 20 residents across three west-end neighbourhoods to complete their solar rooftop and heat pump installations as well as other clean energy solutions.

The pilot’s success laid the groundwork to scale up efforts to serve more residents in these neighbourhoods while expanding to several new GTA communities. With a new name and website launched today, Energy Neighbour provides advice and assistance to navigate the complexities of financing and government rebate programs, and recommends experienced and carefully vetted contractors to ensure a high-quality installation.

Energy Neighbour works hard to deliver convenience, expertise, quality and value to every neighbour they serve:

  • Convenience: Clean energy retrofits can be confusing, overwhelming and time-consuming. Energy Neighbour makes the homeowners’ experience as easy as possible with one-on-one expert guidance – from initial consultation to project completion.
  • Expert Guidance and Support: Contractors, government rebates, energy audits – experts are by your side through every step of the process to offer thoughtful advice and helpful guidance at each stage, keeping projects on track, and helping ensure a smooth and efficient retrofit experience.
  • Quality and Value: To help residents find qualified and reliable contractors, Energy Neighbour vets and recommends energy auditors and installers, and uses the bulk purchase power of our buyers’ pool to ensure better quality and fair prices for each homeowner.
